IMPORTANT information.
The primary purpose of this position is to clean aircraft, aircraft parts, and related aerospace ground equipment. Incumbent functions as an Equipment Cleaner, washing assigned aircraft, removed parts and associated equipment. Incumbent utilizes technical orders, specifications, or instructions as designated by the work leader or supervisor.
Duties Help
- Inspects and sets-up maintenance stands and associated equipment/tools while preparing/cleaning aircraft and AGE for wash.
- Removes matter such as paint, rust, corrosion, sludge, oils, grease and dirt using pumps, brushes, grinders, scrapers, steam cleaning equipment and spray-on cleaning agents.
- Uses cleaning manuals, technical orders, specifications, and instructions to select the appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and cleaning agents to utilize in the assigned process.
- Presents a courteous and friendly presence when dealing with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
- Inventories chemical cleaning compounds and material used to perform daily tasks and performs prior-to-use inspection of the equipment in the mechanical pump room.

- Performs other related duties as required.
- Required to enter confined spaces.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-7000 Packing and Processing Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a EQUIPMENT CLEANER without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Must be able to follow written guidelines.
2. Must be able to interpret technical orders and follow instructions on how to properly use a limited variety of chemical cleaning compounds and sanitizing solutions.
3. Must be able to make adjustments to power cleaning equipment.
4. Moderately heavy physical effort to include lifting up to 50 pounds; pushing and moving equipment; and working from ladders, stands, and/or platforms in excess of 70 ft is required. May be required to lift/move items in excess of 50 lbs. with help of others or with lifting devices.
5. Must be able to read and speak English.
6. Must be able to see, have normal depth perception, walk, climb ladders and have use of both arms, hands and feet.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in shop areas, hangars, and other flight line locations. Individuals will be required to stand, stoop,bend, climb, crawl, hold and control high pressure spraying hoses and nozzles, and work from ladder, scaffolds, andmotorized platforms in cramped and hard to reach places. Worker must be able to work at heights above 70 feet andmust be able to egress down from these heights in an emergency situation. The work requires frequent lifting, moving, or carrying objects weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work may be performed inside or outside and in poor lighting and ventilation. Equipment Cleaners are constantlyexposed to dirt, dust, fumes, grease, oils, and cleaning agents. Working conditions include the possibility of falls, cuts,bruises, scrapes, burns from steam, and skin, nose, and eye irritation when working with or in close proximity tochemicals. Will be required to wear protective clothing such as aprons, gloves, goggles, boots, hard hats, face shields and respiratory protection devices.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
