Paralegal - Intellectual Property Section

A successful candidate for this position must have experience communicating with clients, preparing and filing pleadings in federal court and other government documents, preparing correspondence, meeting deadlines, and organizing and maintaining legal files. Must demonstrate a firm understanding of the "litigation case lifecycle.”

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. E-files pleadings in various federal district courts and federal appellate courts using the Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board End-2-End (PTAB E2E) electronic filing system
  2. Assists with eDiscovery, including document collection, document production, and preparation of privilege logs.
  3. Maintains complete physical and electronic client/matter files.
  4. Supports case management such as task lists, status updates, and overall case organization.
  5. Calculates and tracks deadlines, sharing responsibility with attorneys for ensuring all deadlines are met.
  6. Prepares shell documents for written discovery and responses.
  7. Prepares patent infringement/invalidity charts and patent family charts.
  8. Assists with preparation and assembly of court documents, including briefs, declarations, exhibits, and proposed orders.
  9. Coordinates service of filings and discovery.
  10. Supports depositions, including scheduling, identification of relevant documents, printing and organization of exhibits, and tracking transcripts and errata.
  11. Assists with preparation of expert reports.
  12. Hearing prep & attendance: including preparing binders, retrieving documents, organizing facts, preparing demonstratives, booking conference rooms, and coordinating logistics.
  13. Trial prep & attendance: including managing deposition designations and objections, exhibit lists, witness lists, objections to exhibits, attorney trial notebooks, witness notebooks, document indexes, and privilege logs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
  2. Minimum 2 years of federal litigation paralegal work experience.
  3. Working knowledge of iManage (Desksite/Mailsite), Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  4. Organized and detail oriented.
  5. Ability to work in the office or other work-related locations on a daily basis to provide assistance to attorneys as needed to meet clients’ needs. Some travel may be required.
  6. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours weekly.
  7. Billing requirements: 1,800 billable hours/year.
